Signs your HDMI port is damaged

• The console powers on but there's no picture on the TV.

• The image flickers, shows lines, or drops when the cable moves.

• It happened right after the console fell or someone tripped over the cable.

Before you bring it in, try a different HDMI cable and a different TV input. If the problem follows the console, it's the port.

How we fix it: microsoldering, not a board swap

The HDMI port on a PS5, Xbox Series X/S or PS4 is soldered directly onto the motherboard. Fixing it properly means removing the damaged port under a microscope, cleaning and checking the pads underneath, and soldering a new port in place pin by pin.

We do this in-house at our shop with a stereo microscope and a hot air rework station. You keep your original motherboard — which matters, because on a PS5 the board is paired to your console.

When the cable was yanked hard enough to rip the pads or traces off the board, the repair takes extra board work. We check that during diagnosis and tell you before we start.
